The Illusion of Independence: Thomas Massie’s “Anti-PAC” Image Was Built by a PAC
Ada Nestor | My Reflections from the Edge
Thomas Massie. The “independent thinker.” The lone wolf. The one man in Congress who supposedly can’t be bought.
Sounds nice, doesn’t it?
Except the receipts tell a different story.
For a guy who spends half his time lecturing about “draining the swamp,” he’s been sipping from the same water supply as everyone else. The only difference is that his cup says “Liberty” on the side.
Follow the Money
According to OpenSecrets.org, Club for Growth was Massie’s top contributor in 2020, dropping $73,202 into his coffers. That’s not grassroots. That’s a PAC payout wrapped in patriotic packaging.
Then came Protect Freedom PAC, heavily funded by billionaire investor Jeffrey Yass, which spent $30,000 in 2022 to keep Massie’s seat safe.
By 2024, Yass’s trading firm Susquehanna International Group (SIG) popped up on Massie’s donor list, with $13,200 in bundled employee contributions. Yass himself even wrote a $3,300 check to Massie’s campaign on March 7, 2024.
But sure, tell us again how you’re “not beholden to anyone.”
Parallel Pipelines
Here’s where it gets good.
Massie built his anti-AIPAC brand, earning praise for standing up to foreign influence. Yet the same donors and PACs that quietly finance him are pushing the same hawkish and globalist policies, just through different pipelines.
While AIPAC’s United Democracy Project aired attack ads against him in 2024, Yass-funded liberty PACs like Protect Freedom and Club for Growth were out back polishing his “independence” badge.
What looks like a fight on TV is really theater.
One PAC throws a punch. Another holds the towel. The audience cheers for “principle.” Everyone gets paid.
And if that weren’t enough, there’s the curious case of the Integrity Political Action Committee, a group that somehow manages to back both Thomas Massie and the Democratic Socialists of America in their shared mission to “fight ICE.” In June 2025, its chairman, Rafed Aljoboury, dropped $500 into Massie’s campaign, posed for a smiling photo with him in Pennsylvania, and then announced a DSA partnership a week later. When questioned, Massie said he was “not familiar” with their stance on immigration. Right. Because nothing says “principled independence” like cashing checks from a PAC you claim you’ve never heard of.
The Unraveling
I’ll admit it… Massie even had me fooled. For a while.
When President Trump turned his attention to him earlier this year, after Massie voted against several Trump supported initiatives in Congress, I started asking questions. That’s when someone pointed out the Yass connection and the illusion cracked wide open.
I still don’t know the full purpose of building this mirage, outside of keeping him in office, but I know this: where there’s smoke, there’s fire. And this one smells like money burning behind a flag.
No Accusations. Just Accountability.
Jeff Yass has every right to fund whoever he believes defends liberty or the Constitution. Frankly, some of the people he’s backed have been damn good public servants.
What’s not right is pretending the money doesn’t exist.
You can’t shout about corruption while your campaign account reads like a donor directory for D.C. super PACs.
That’s not integrity. That’s branding.
The Bottom Line
Massie’s anti-PAC and anti-AIPAC posture made him look untouchable. But the reality is simpler: he’s just been touched by a different hand.
The “independent” congressman has a very dependent donor base. The only difference is the marketing.
And while I understand I never have good news to deliver, I’ll always bring the truth. Because somebody has to. Hypocrisy, anywhere, deserves to be exposed.

First of all, $73k pails in comparison to the kind of money AIPAC gives to our law makers. Second, the Republican party is every bit as dirty as Democrats in what they do to get rid of actual patriots. The Republican establishment will do everything possible to get rid of true conservatives. It’s disgusting and this hit piece is extremely transparent.
